The teenage years are an excellent time to receive orthodontics! We understand that teenagers are busy with a number of activities, from school, friends and dating to sports and other extracurricular activities. When you bring your teenager to our office, we will work with them to find the type of orthodontic treatment that is right for their needs and will help them achieve a beautiful smile. From traditional metal braces to more discreet alternatives, we are dedicated to providing your teenager with the high-quality care they deserve.
Types of braces
Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type, and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, they straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Gold braces are similar to traditional metal braces in many ways. They are made of stainless steel but are uniquely coated in gold. Many regard the gold coating as a more cosmetic option than traditional metal braces. And the cost of gold braces is surprisingly comparable to most clear braces.
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, they are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Clear Orthodontic Appliances
Invisalign® uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth. And no one can tell you are wearing Invisalign because it’s invisible! Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment; plus, brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and contain no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. Please visit our Invisalign page to learn more about.
We are pleased to help our teenage patients achieve straight, beautiful smiles with orthodontic services designed to fit their active lifestyles. We are aware that your teen is involved with a wide variety of activities, including school, friends, dating, sports and other extracurricular activities, and we can help you arrive at the orthodontic solution that fits your family’s individualized needs. Whether you are interested in traditional braces or a more aesthetic, discreet option, we are committed to providing the high-quality, personalized orthodontic treatment your family needs for straighter, healthier and more attractive smiles.
There are several benefits to addressing orthodontic needs during the teen years rather than putting off treatment until later. These benefits often include:
Shortened treatment time
Reduced need for tooth extraction
The ability to preserve space for any unerupted teeth and provide room for crowded, erupting teeth
Restored facial symmetry and aesthetics by stimulating jaw growth
Preserved tooth health and minimized threat of damage to protruding teeth
